Official websites use .gov, which belongs to an official government organization of the United States. This section provides many examples of documents from the lists of acceptable Form I-9 documents that an employee could submit to establish employment authorization and identity. However, this section does not include all variants of a particular document, and new versions of a document may be available after we publish this manual.
We don't expect you to be an expert on documents, but we do expect you to accept documents that look reasonably authentic and are related to the person presenting them. The employee must submit a document or combination of documents from List A (showing both identity and employment authorization) or a document from List B (showing identity) and a document from List C (showing employment authorization) or an acceptable receipt for those documents within three business days of the date paid work begins. Note that the Home Office only issues BRPs that are valid until December 31, 2024, even if the person's license permit is longer. If you perform a physical and online verification for a BRP holder, you'll notice this discrepancy in the end date of their visa.
